Makeup Series: Makeup Application + Tutorial

Today blog post is all about how to apply eyeshadow on your eyes. Applying eyeshadow can be tricky at times but with the right techniques and tools, it can be as easy as 1,2 and 3. Let’s start.

Step 1: Prime your eyelids with eye primer or concealer. This step will help keep your eyeshadow vibrant on your eyelids and prevent from creasing.

Step 2: Apply your eyeshadow colour by dapping and pressing lightly to your eye lid. To look natural, you can use neutral colours such as peachy and light brown eyeshadow.

Step 3: Apply a slightly darker color to the crease. Keep it on your crease, and don't extend it upward. For a bolder look, use bolder colors. Make sure the colors go well with your eye color.

Step 4: Apply your favourite mascara and eyeliner.

Step 5: Apply your favourite lipstick with either a lip brush or just use the lipstick itself.
Find the right size brush to use. It should not be too big or too small.

When using powder eyeshadow, you can dampen the brush with water to add extra vibrancy or you can use mixing medium

With all these steps in applying simple makeup, here's a video tutorial for you guys to enjoy and learn some tips and trick.

Makeup Series: Finding the Right Foundation & Application

Makeup can make someone look good but also feel good about oneself.  Through this post, we want to share with you the basic of applying makeup and looking good.

A beautiful face starts with beautiful skin. Want to know how to have good skin?

Visit our previous: Click Here!

First of all, you have to know what type of skin tone you have and picking out the right foundation and concealer colour is very important for your face.

Try the color out on your jawline, not your wrist or hand.

With the right foundation color, it can help you in looking flawless and more natural. You also need to find out the right formulation for your skin. If you have oily skin, look for products that have words like "oil-free," "oil-control" or "mattifying" on the bottle. If you have dry skin, go for moisturizing foundations with "hydrating" or "moisture-rich" wording on the bottle. In the market, there are liquids, creme to powder, sticks, mousse and many more.

Once you already have the right foundation and concealer colour for your face, it’s time to apply them on your face.

Step 1: Apply toner and moisturizer that have SPF.

Step 2: Apply a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation. Dot it on over any blemishes or under-eye circles and blend with your fingertips or a makeup sponge. Apply concealer to any problem areas such as dark circles, blemishes, etc.

Step 3: Apply foundation using a sponge - using your fingertips may result in an uneven, greasy finish.
  • Dampen the sponge first squeezing out the excess moisture - this will make the foundation application easier and avert the sponge from soaking up too much foundation.
  • Place a small amount of foundation on the back of one hand and again dip your makeup sponge in it.
  • Apply foundation by dotting it on your chin, forehead, cheeks and nose and then blend each one with your sponge.
  • Mix it out to your hair and jaw line until and unless the foundation vanishes.

Step 4: Use a loose or pressed powder to keep foundation and concealer to make it lasts longer.

If oil surfaces during the day, spot that area with a tissue and then apply a light dusting of powder.

Makeup Series: Right technique applying Blusher

Step 1: Select a blush that suits your purpose. Pink or peach shade of blush will be suitable for all skin types. Select a light shade of brown if you want to highlight your cheek bones.

Step 2: Apply blush to your blush brush and tap off any excess.

Step 3: Locate the top of your cheek bone with your finger. You will feel a bone about half way between the corner of your eye and the center of your ear.

Step 4: Place the blush brush on the top of your cheek bone; pull the brush down and under your eye, following the curve of your cheek bone. This should be the shape of a comma lying down.

Step 5: Disperse the blush from this line you just made down your cheek. Do not add more makeup for this step; just use the blush that has already been applied.

Step 6: Brush a little color along your nose, your chin and your hairline using the remaining makeup on your brush. This creates a sun-kissed look.

Apply blusher in E-shape shading. Start from your temple, cheek bone to your jaw line.

Take note! Different face shape have different technique of applying blusher.

Hope this Makeup Series will help you gain basic knowledge of finding the right product for you and applying the right technique and tips that you can use in your everyday life.

We are what we eat and this holds true for our hair too!  If your diet is poor then you may experience symptoms such as hair that is too dry or too greasy, dandruff or may even result in hair loss. However, do not fear as Simply Beautilicious team is here to recommend some food that it is good for your hair!
  • Salmon. It is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, has high source of protein and is filled with vitamin B-12 and iron. According to Andrea Giancoli, MPH, RD, a dietitian in Los Angeles and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, "Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support scalp health and a deficiency can result in a dry scalp and thus hair, giving it a dull look."
  • Carrots. They are an excellent source of vitamin A, which promotes a healthy scalp along with good vision.
  • Eggs & Chicken. As hair is mostly made of protein so a diet rich in protein helps to encourage hair growth and prevent hair loss. Eggs are a great source of sulphur which helps keep the hair follicles in good health whereas Chicken is a good source of protein.
  • Dark Green Vegetables. Examples of such are Spinach and broccoli which are rich in vitamin A and vitamin C. These help your body to produce sebum. Sebum is an oily substance, secreted by your hair follicles and is the body's natural hair conditioner. They also provide iron and calcium.
  • Almonds. They contain protein, which gives your hair strength, and the mineral zinc, which keeps it thick.
  • Water. Consuming at least eight glasses of water per day will help transport the needed nutrients to your hair and help keep your hair strands hydrated and strong.

An additional tip (We found useful!):

    • Peppers. Choose from Red, orange, yellow, green peppers – they’re all a good source of carotene some of which the body safely converts into vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for healthy eyes and our immune response.
    • Kiwi Fruit. They are rich in vitamin C, which not only helps boost your immune system – reducing the risk of those grey-looking periods when you’re on the verge of illness – but also aids iron absorption when you are eating iron-rich foods. If you become iron-deficient you will most be feeling tired and possibly dizzy.
    • Tomatoes. A great source of vitamins C and E which are important for maintenance of health skin condition and eyes.
    • Fish. Tuna, sardines, mackerel and salmon are useful sources of essential fatty acids (omega-3 group), great not only for better inner health but also for problems like eczema. Protein and EFAs could also help keep your hair and nails looking great, too!
    • Berries. Dark berries, such as blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, have abundant antioxidant properties.
    • Avocado. Avocados are a fruit, not a vegetable! It regulates your metabolic activity and that helps to lose weight. Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats. This means that avocado contains fat soluble vitamins and fats. Hence, when you eat avocado with salads and other foods, avocado helps to digest and absorb all the nutrients.

Skincare Tips Part III - 'Going back to basic'

Something to share - Skin care recipes

Perhaps most of us know that eggs are packed with protein and lecithin, which is a natural lubricant for the skin.

    Ingredients:
    1 raw egg
    1 tablespoon of honey (optional)

    *Alternatively, you can add:
1 tablespoon of sour cream (help slough off any dead skin cells)
Few drops of lemon juice (helps to drain excess oil but do not do so if you have dry skin, it will only irritate your skin)

    Directions:
Separate the egg white and yolk into different bowls. Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with the egg white.
Spread this gently and evenly, using with your fingertips, cotton bud or a face mask brush on your clean face and neck: avoiding your eyes and mouth area. Next, relax and leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes.
Then wash it off with a warm, damp cloth and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
